Mysuru Man Took His Mother For A 48,000km Pilgrimage On A Bajaj Chetak Scooter

You must have heard the famous tale of Shravan Kumar from the epic Ramayan. Shravan Kumar hailed as the ideal son, took his blind parents on a pilgrimage, by carrying them on a balance like device on his shoulders. Well, India has just witnessed the modern-day Shravan Kumar in 39-year-old Mysuru resident, D Krishna Kumar, who took his 70-year-old mother, Choodarathna on a 48,000 km pilgrimage around India in a 20-year-old Bajaj Chetak scooter gifted to him by his late father. The corporate professional quit his job after he came to know his mother’s desire to visit the temples in India, especially in Hampi. He wanted to fulfill the desires of his mother, who lead a lonely life after his father’s death. Like most mothers, Choodarathna spent most of her life cooking, cleaning and taking care of her joint family and didn’t even step out of her town in Mysuru. So her son D Krishna Kumar decided to fulfill her wishes so took her on this beautiful 7 months-long pilgrimage on his scooter all around India.

The Mother, Son Duo Travelled On A Bajaj Chetak Scooter

The mother and son duo, throughout the pilgrimage, stayed in mutts instead of hotels and lodges. The covered almost all the holy places across all states south of the Vindhyas. Before he took on the yatra, he customized the 2000 model Bajaj scooter gifted to him by his father. And during his trip, D Krishna Kumar felt it be a blessing to travel in this Bajaj Chetak Scooter. He felt like he had his father’s good wishes and presence in the form of this gift. And it wasn’t just a mother-son trip, but something like a family trip for him. So carrying essentials in his scooter, they set off on a journey like never before.

They visited Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, North East and many more states apart from these. They also visited countries like Nepal, Bhutan and Myanmar, all on a 20-year-old scooter.  And apart from a small puncture, the D Krishna Kumar and his mother didn’t face any other issues on this trip. They were warmly welcomed by many localities to their homes and received plenty of love from the entire nation for their beautiful travel journey. So much so, that even the Chairman of the Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra was deeply touched by their story, and wished to personally gift D Krishna Kumar a Mahindra KUV 100 NXT so he could drive his mother in a car on their next journey. Kudos to D Krishna Kumar who has really given us such a beautiful example of love, devotion to be shown to our parents. And we can’t wait to know about his next journey with his mother.
