Cow Dung Cakes Are Being Sold In The USA For ₹214

First of all, I’d like to let to assure you that we are not bullshitting you. For quite some time now, cow dung patties or cow dung cakes, freshly prepared and packaged in India, have been selling like hot cakes on e-commerce websites like Amazon, eBay or Flipkart. The patties are prepared by rural women, from cow poop, which is then mixed with hay and dried in the sun. It’s usually bought by people in cities to use it for religious purposes, to light fire or for gardening. But now the latest amusing news is that a Twitterati posted a picture a pack of 10 cow dung cakes, costing $2.99(₹214 approx) in a New Jersey store and shared the picture of it on social media. Ever since then, cow dung cakes have been on the news, and how.

What’s In It?

Samar Halarnkar, a Twitter user was sent a picture of a pack of 10 cow dung cakes in a store in Edison in New Jersey, the USA by his cousin. The pack was being sold only for $2.99 (₹214). The pack clearly mentioned that the product was from India and was intended to be used for religious purposes. Funnily enough, the pack had a clear warning for consumers stating that it was not edible. Samar was quite amused by this and tweeted a picture of it enquiring if this was imported from desi cows or if they were from Yankee cows. Well, this leaves me enquiring if desi cows and Yankee cows have different dung properties, to begin with.

What’s More?

It’s quite surprising and flabbergasting to know that cow dung cakes have been selling on numerous online portals since quite a while. Their multi-purpose nature attracts people both desis and videshis to give this product a go. Cow dung cakes have been used in India since centuries for heating, cooking or for religious rituals. But talk about taking things too far, people have been demanding gift wrapping for their online purchased cow dung cakes. And retailers are more than happy to oblige and they are even providing large discounts on it. In more bizarre news, Goan Cows Turn Non-Vegetarian; Sent For Treatment

People staying away from India, who have been brought up in rural areas find the smell of cow dung to be quite pleasant. Many of them order it online to light a fire outdoors during the winter season or to celebrate Lohri and other religious festivities. Well, we have been successfully able to export our yoga, Haldi Doodh, Chicken Tikka Masala and so we are more than happy to gift our cow dung cakes to the USA.
