Indians are known for their hospitality, culture, food, and grand weddings! So much so, that the Indian wedding market here is one of the biggest in the world, and the statistics back this claim now. As per a survey by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), the ongoing wedding season is going to be massive. The survey revealed that approximately 42 lakh weddings are likely to take place this wedding season and generate business worth ₹5.5 lakh crore. These numbers show wedding-related purchases and services.

Taking ‘Big Fat Indian Weddings’ To A Whole New Level This Season

We’re taking the ‘big fat Indian wedding’ claim to a whole new level this wedding season. As per CAIT’s research arm CAIT Research & Trade Development Society, India will see approximately 42 lakh weddings this wedding season that will last till mid-July. This massive number will see business worth ₹5.5 lakh crore being generated through wedding-related purchases and services.

In last year’s wedding season, there were around 35 lakh weddings across India, generating a revenue of about ₹4.25 lakh crore. This year, Delhi alone will see around 4 lakh weddings. This will generate a business revenue of about ₹1.5 lakh crore. And the traders across the country are ready to meet this massive demand, as per CAIT.

What Do Indians Spend On While Planning A Wedding?

According to this survey, about 20% of the expenditure during a wedding is allotted for the groom’s and bride’s side. The remaining 80% goes to third-party agencies that help in wedding arrangements like venues, photographers, etc. Besides that, people spend a moolah on jewellery, sarees, clothing, footwear, wedding and greeting cards, furniture, dry fruits, sweets, fruits, worship items, groceries, food grains, decoration items, home decor, electrical utilities, and even home repairs and painting during the wedding season. These services generate significant business during the wedding season.
