India To Witness 400 Million Air Travellers In The Next 7 To 10 Years: Scindia

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in a conference organised by industry body Assocham revealed that India will witness 400 million air travellers in the next 7 to 10 years. Scindia stated that India is expected to have tremendous growth in air travellers. This in turn will offer opportunities for domestic flights that must have a fleet of 1200 planes in five years. On August 23, Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia revealed that India’s civil aviation sector is on a path to recovery after facing massive losses due to the Covid-19-induced travel restrictions. Scindia stated that India’s aviation industry is in the growth phase, where the country expects 400 million air travellers in the next 7 to 10 years. Since a massive number of air travellers is expected, it offers growth opportunities to both airlines and airports.

Accommodating Growing Number Of Air Travellers

Scindia emphasised the need for all stakeholders to create an international hub in the country. Some of the pointers for accommodating the growing number of air travellers include accommodating wide-body aircraft for international travel. He also stressed the need to create a synergy between domestic and international departures. This will start by developing a model airport.
