The gates of Varsha don’t just open, they announce something: a hush, a presence, and a certain kind of power fill the air as Kamiya Jani, our editor-in-chief, steps into the official residence of the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, a home that has witnessed cabinet decisions, late-night calls, and stories etched into its every corner. Welcomed by Amruta Fadnavis for a Sunday Brunch, she takes a moment to soak it all in before whispering what everyone feels about this address: This is one powerful home.”

Inside Varsha: Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Iconic Residence In Mumbai

Inside, Varsha gleamed like a museum of quiet opulence. There were traditional showpieces like brass elephants, idols, and intricate figurines, the kind that hold both cultural memory and elegance. There was nothing too glitzy and glam, and everything looked deliberate. It was the kind of decor that tells you whoever lives here values meaning over trend.

When Kamiya Jani, our editor-in-chief, asked Amruta Fadnavis whether she feels “powerful” or “at home” when she enters, Amruta didn’t sugarcoat it. “You definitely feel the power,” she admitted, pausing as if weighing her own words, “but it’s a different kind of spirituality too, something you have to balance and, at the same time, detach from.” It wasn’t a politician’s answer, it was something more layered! It mixed philosophy with self-awareness and got us thinking too!

Amruta Fadnavis Offers Us A Soulful Home Tour

Amruta’s relationship with this space runs deep. She first lived here between 2014 and 2019 and, as she put it, “it’s only gotten more improved.” Not everything, though, is state property; some details are all hers. She points to a pair of red velvet chairs, glowing under soft light, with a Ganpati idol between them. These were her little touches. Kamiya jokes, saying, “Iss chair pe jo baithta hai, wo bhi CM ban jaata hai kya..?”

Our camera followed her through a long corridor, the kind that seems to stretch with stories. Along it are the main hall, the Anti Chamber where, as Amruta said, “small matters are discussed,” and nearby, Devendra Fadnavis’s home office. Past that are the bedrooms, including her mother-in-law’s, each with its own quiet magic.

And then, the kitchen. Amruta laughs as they walk in and says, “Curly Tales would be more interested in the kitchen, right?” There’s warmth in her tone, and the humbleness only she can manage.  She mentions she’s not shy in there either, she makes khichdi sometimes, simple and comforting, a reminder that even in Maharashtra’s most powerful home, everyday life still exists.

By the end, you realise Varsha isn’t just a government bungalow. It’s where authority and authenticity coexist. It is where chandeliers meet brass Ganpatis. And where Amruta Fadnavis, poised yet grounded, holds power, not just in position, but in presence.
