When Kamiya Jani landed at Gaurav Gera’s Oshiwara home for a Sunday Brunch episode, the table looked exactly like you’d expect from someone as delightfully unpredictable as him. There was doodh soda, chai, Punjabi kadhi, and the kind of easy conversation that only happens when people are genuinely comfortable around each other. Then came the question that shifted the mood from casual to hilarious in seconds.
Gaurav Gera’s Honest Take On Actors Vs Content Creators
Who earns more today, an actor or a content creator?
Before any serious answer could even begin to explain itself, both Kamiya Jani and Gaurav Gera broke into loud laughter. It was the kind that says, “We both know this already.”
Once the laughing died down, Gaurav took a pause and then said it explicitly: the internet pays a crazy amount of money. He explained it without bitterness, without pretending, and without trying to sound wiser than he is. In films, he said, there is a structure everyone understands. The lead actor sells the project.
He used Ranveer Singh in Dhurandhar as an example. People are buying tickets to see the star. That’s who drives openings, headlines, posters, and buzz. Supporting actors can do solid work, memorable work even, but they are still orbiting someone else’s centre.
Then he contrasted it with the internet. Online, there is no “main lead” above you. You are the face people click for. As Gaurav essentially put it, on the internet, you are the king, your own master.
Gaurav Gera also spoke about the insecurity actors live with during films. He mentioned Dhurandhar and said he had been nervous. He believed he had shot well and felt that the role was strong. But none of that guarantees anything once editing begins.
A film may be running too long, a scene may not fit the pace, or a track may get reduced. Sometimes, there are reasons no actor is even told about. You can give your best performance and still watch it disappear in the edit room.

Gaurav Gera Opens Up About Film Insecurity And Digital Fame
Then he shared a memory from 2004 that hurt more than any industry theory. He had been selected for a film. He was on his way to begin shooting when a call came asking him to hold on. Later, he learned he had been replaced.
That one story explains why so many performers now value digital platforms differently. The internet may be chaotic and unpredictable. But for artists, it offers something the old system often didn’t: ownership. No one can cut your scene, no one can quietly replace you on the way to set, and no one decides whether you matter after the edit.
