Rajkummar Rao is playing Ujjwal Nikam on screen, but it turns out the real Ujjwal Nikam comes with a few surprises that probably didn’t make it into the character brief. During Sunday Brunch episode with Kamiya Jani, Rajkummar Rao and Ujjwal Nikam, the actor got a glimpse of the prosecutor’s home life before getting into the much bigger story of the man he is portraying in the upcoming film Prahaar. And the first surprise was waiting right outside the house.
Rajkummar Rao Recognises Ujjwal Nikam’s Beloved Dog Marshall
The moment the lift doors opened, the trio found a Sai Baba idol. Rajkummar Rao, Kamiya Jani and Ujjwal Nikam stopped to take blessings before walking in. Right beside it, though, was something that immediately caught Rajkummar’s attention: a remarkably lifelike sculpture of a dog.
Rajkummar Rao didn’t need an introduction.
“I know him. He’s in the film,” he said, recognising the dog from the upcoming movie. The dog was Marshall, Ujjwal Nikam’s beloved pet, and considering how realistic the sculpture looked, it was probably the closest thing to an actual reunion Rajkummar could have had at that moment.
Then Ujjwal Nikam casually dropped another piece of information. He is a dog trainer.
The Prosecutor Who Is Also A Dog Trainer
Kamiya Jani was clearly not expecting that. “Really?” she asked, looking genuinely surprised.
Ujjwal Nikam, however, had a very straightforward explanation for the seemingly random skill. He said he understands psychology, and that understanding helps him understand dogs as well. His logic was simple; if you can read behaviour, you can read behaviour, whether it belongs to a dog or a person.
And apparently, that understanding of human psychology has been useful in his career too. Ujjwal Nikam explained that his grasp of psychology is also what allows him to understand criminals and get into their minds.
Which makes the dog sculpture sitting at the entrance feel oddly appropriate. Before entering the home of one of India’s best-known prosecutors, Rajkummar Rao had already encountered a small clue about the man’s approach to people, animals and, well, pretty much everyone whose mind needs decoding.
Rajkummar Rao is set to portray Ujjwal Nikam in Prahaar, making this rather unexpected dog-training revelation all the more interesting. Because apparently, preparing to play a prosecutor can begin with understanding criminals. But at Ujjwal Nikam’s house, it might also involve understanding dogs.
