Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Learnt To Cook In His Childhood; Also Cooked On Trains

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s journey from being a tribal sarpanch to the head of the state is an inspiring one. Talking to him about his inspiring life journey is our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, on the latest episode of Sunday Brunch. Over rice and millet-based delicacies like Thekua and Chila, she spoke to Shri Vishnu Deo about his childhood days, life as a politician and even the time he used to cook for himself. Here’s more on it.

Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Used To Cook As Child

While indulging in a Sunday feast with the Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai, himself, Kamiya Jani asked him if he knew how to cook. To this, the CM replied that from the 6th grade to the 10th grade, he used to live by himself on rent. During those days, he would cook for himself. There wasn’t any cook who’d prepare food for him. As a young teenager, he learnt to cook for survival.

“Hum bahut achha khaana banate the,” he said. (I used to cook well.) Since he hasn’t cooked in a while, the Chhattisgarh CM admits to having lost practice, needing to hone his culinary skills. Later, Kamiya even asked him to talk about the days when he’d travel on long rail journeys. The politician would cook a meal on the train instead of packing fully cooked tiffins from home.

Remembered Preparing Quick Meals On Trains

He revealed that earlier, there were no direct Rajdhani trains to his home town in Bhopal. So, he used to travel on multiple trains to reach his destination. The journey would entail about 24 hours.

CM Vishnu Deo Sai recalled carrying tiffin boxes filled with roti, dal, and rice. During the journey, they’d remove knives and cut onions. Then, they’d stack their suitcases to act like dining tables, and gather around them for a meal. The politician hailing from the ‘Rice Bowl of India’ recommended Bastar and Chitrakoot to tourists visiting the state.
