Flyers heading to India’s Silicon Valley have newer and faster options on the map. Air India Express has rolled out nonstop services linking Bengaluru with Ahmedabad and Chandigarh, while Dehradun is set to join the list on September 15. The move adds more muscle to Bengaluru’s growing aviation network and gives business and leisure travellers an easier route into the tech capital.
Air India Express Direct Linking Flights To Bengaluru
According to Hindustan Times, the first flights from Ahmedabad and Chandigarh touched down in Bengaluru on Monday, signalling the airline’s latest push to expand its domestic footprint. For Ahmedabad, the carrier has started with a daily service but won’t stop there, as a second daily flight is already scheduled from September 16. From Chandigarh, travellers now get the convenience of two daily departures, timed for morning and evening.
Dehradun joins the party in less than two weeks, offering a direct link between the Garden City and the Himalayan foothills. Announcing the routes on X, the airline called Bengaluru its “largest domestic hub,” pointing out that more than 400 flights a week operate from the city to 34 destinations across India. The new additions don’t just bring point-to-point convenience, but they also open up a wider network.
Flyers from Ahmedabad can now connect through Bengaluru to 26 domestic cities and three international getaways, while passengers out of Chandigarh gain one-stop links to 23 destinations across South Asia.

The launch came with a ceremonial touch. At Chandigarh, Air India Express Managing Director Aloke Singh personally handed over a commemorative boarding pass to the very first passenger before the Boeing 737 aircraft. It was painted in the carrier’s “Tales of India” livery as it took off for Bengaluru.
These new routes from Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, and soon Dehradun reflect their focus on tying state capitals to the country’s major metros, as iterated by Aloke Singh. He stressed that the airline’s strategy isn’t just about adding flights but about shaping the experience with affordable fare options such as the cabin-bag-only Xpress Lite, full-service touches like hot meals onboard, and design details that celebrate Indian culture, as stated by Hindustan Times.
For Bengaluru, the additions are another notch in its role as South India’s air gateway. They make life easier for corporate road warriors heading into the tech corridor as well as holidaymakers bound for southern beaches or outbound international trips.

The timing is also notable. Domestic air travel demand has been climbing steadily, and Bengaluru has emerged as one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the country. By locking in new nonstop links and upping frequencies, Air India Express is betting big on that momentum and staking a stronger claim in the competition for regional connectivity.
