Heavy rainfall continued in parts of India on Thursday as multiple weather systems influenced the southwest monsoon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts for several states, including Odisha, with very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall expected in some regions over the coming days. IMD Issues Red Alert For Odisha Due To Heavy Rainfall
As per a report by India Today, the northeastern region is likely to witness heavy rainfall as monsoon activity remains active. Assam and neighbouring states may witness spells of moderate to heavy rain, with some areas possibly receiving intense showers. Citizens are advised to remain alert in areas vulnerable to waterlogging, flooding and landslides.
Odisha witnessed heavy rain over the past 24 hours as a well-marked low-pressure area over the north Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Bangladesh-West Bengal coast moved northwestwards. The system is predicted to move across Gangetic West Bengal towards Jharkhand and may worsen into a depression within the next 12 hours.
The IMD has issued a red warning for very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Odisha on Thursday. Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh are also likely to be affected by the ongoing wet spell.

Maharashtra & Uttar Pradesh Continue To Receive Moderate Rainfall
Maharashtra, which recorded intense rainfall in July before the activity eased in early August, is also expected to receive moderate to heavy rain in some areas over the next few days. The weather is being impacted by active southwest monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea, a low-pressure system over Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, and changing conditions over the Bay of Bengal.
Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh is set for another spell of monsoon activity from August 13. According to the IMD, widespread rainfall and isolated heavy showers are likely across the state until August 18. The spell is expected to begin in eastern Uttar Pradesh on August 13 before spreading towards central and adjoining western parts on August 14.

The IMD said a low-pressure area over northwestern Madhya Pradesh, along with another system over the northern Bay of Bengal, is influencing the monsoon trough and could lead to increased rainfall activity across several parts of the country.
