Despite its reputation as a gleaming corporate hub on Delhi’s outskirts, Gurgaon remains notoriously vulnerable during the monsoon, when inadequate drainage and unplanned construction collide to bring daily life to a standstill. Submerged roads, traffic woes, and stranded commuters are a seasonal reality residents know all too well. The latest reel by a Russian creator captured the sentiment of Gurgaon rains, but with a witty and international twist.

Creator Compares Gurgaon To Venice In Latest Reel

Amid this backdrop of frustration, one resident chose humour over despair. Russian citizen Eliza Ue, who lives in Gurgaon, posted a short reel on Instagram that has since gone viral.

The video opens on a quiet, dry residential lane. A jump cut later, the same street looks more like a shallow canal, water covering the road from edge to edge. Over the footage, she wrote: “Me in Gurgaon – Please Universe make me go to Venice.”

The caption underneath sealed the punchline: “Next time I should ask for Paris.” With its perfect timing and relatable premise, the reel has already crossed 2.2 million views, making Eliza’s flooded neighbourhood an unlikely online sensation.

People Can’t Stop Reacting: Gurgaon Rains

The comments section, unsurprisingly, became a comedy stage of its own. Some leaned into the joke: “Only Gurgaon can give you the vibes of both metro and Venice at the same time,” one viewer wrote. Another offered a wry contrast: “At least you got Venice, we only get potholes and chaos.”

Others riffed on the idea of affordability “Venice tickets are so costly, Gurgaon did it for free” and stretched the metaphor further. One admirer applauded her editing skills, calling it a “Transition reel done right.”

The responses also carried a sharper edge. A few users pointed to similar scenes elsewhere: “This is nothing. Go to Mumbai right now, you will find a whole underwater city there.” Others were more personal: “We were going to rent here. Thank God we didn’t, because I don’t have a boat.”

A note of exasperation came through in the line, “But it looks like a posh colony and still it doesn’t have a proper drainage system.”

For all its humour, the reel touched a raw nerve. Gurgaon, with its towering glass offices and luxury apartments, continues to falter on basic civic preparedness. Each monsoon exposes the same cracks like clogged drains, waterlogged roads, and the absence of sustainable planning.
