This day is considered very important in Hindu tradition. According to Hindu scriptures, it is believed that Lord Brahma began the creation of the universe on this day and started the cosmic cycle of time. Because of this belief, the day is seen as very auspicious. Many people, therefore, choose this time to start new work, perform religious rituals, begin projects, or make new resolutions, as it is believed to bring good luck and positive beginnings.

What Are The Traditions People Follow?
The Hindu New Year is celebrated in different ways across India. In Maharashtra, it is known as Gudi Padwa, where families raise a decorated Gudi outside their homes to symbolise victory, prosperity, and protection. According to India TV, in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka, the festival is called Ugadi. People visit temples and prepare Ugadi Pachadi, a dish with six flavours that represent different experiences of life.
In many North Indian states, the day is observed as Hindu Nav Varsh or Nav Samvat, when families offer prayers, read the new year almanack, and perform simple rituals at home. It is seen as a time for a fresh spiritual and personal beginning.
The Hindu New Year begins at the same time as Chaitra Navratri, a nine-day festival dedicated to Goddess Durga. From March 19, many devotees observe fasts, perform daily prayers, and take part in religious rituals.
