According to NDTV, during the peak festive season, Swiggy has witnessed a significant surge in the number of daily orders. Now, they have increased the platform fee by ₹2. Anyone ordering food via Swiggy will have to pay ₹14 to the platform. Since 2023, the app has been constantly raising the fee. Reportedly, the platform fee was ₹2 in 2023, which went up to ₹6 in July 2024 and ₹10 in October 2024. The last reported fee was ₹12, which has now increased to ₹14–marking a 600% growth within the last two years.

In the ongoing festive season, Swiggy is receiving more than 2 million orders daily across India. In the June quarter (Q1 FY26), Swiggy reported a net loss of ₹1,197 crore, which is almost double the ₹611 crore loss it recorded in the same quarter last year (Q1 FY25). Why Zomato And Swiggy Increased Fee?

As per The New Indian Express, the reason for Swiggy’s growing losses is its grocery delivery service, Instamart. The cost of Instamart, including delivery, warehouses, discounts, and operations, has heavily affected the company’s financial status.

Both industry leaders, Zomato and Swiggy, tested higher platform fees on busy days to make up for this. Zomato also increased platform fees by 400% in less than two years. The app has raised its fees five times in this period. Both Zomato and Swiggy are market leaders and charge restaurants commissions of up to 35%. Reports suggest that to cover up their losses, the apps increase menu prices, making online food costlier than eating at restaurants.
