Indore Restaurant Calls Out AI For Fake Refund Claims After Spotting “Fly” In Biscoff Cake

AI has become such a big part of our lives that we barely even notice it anymore. It helps us write captions, generate images, fix photos, and follow trends; you name it, it does it. But just like every good thing, this one also comes with a not-so-nice side. Because while AI can help you create fun content, it can also help someone create fake problems. And that’s exactly what happened with Nini’s Kitchen, a popular restaurant chain with outlets in Indore, Ahmedabad, and other cities across Gujarat.

Nini’s Kitchen recently posted a video on Instagram explaining how AI-generated food images were used to scam them. One customer ordered a sticky Biscoff cake, and a little while later, the restaurant received a refund request. The customer said there was a fly inside the cake tub and even attached a photo of the same.

As a restaurant, you put so much effort into your food. So, of course, your heart would drop for a second. But when the team looked more closely, they noticed something was off. The fly was completely clean, with no crumbs and no cake smeared on its wings or legs. And the cake was very sticky, so this made zero sense. This raised suspicion, and they ran the photo through an AI detection tool. They were even more shocked by the outcome: 99% AI-generated and 1% real.

They thought this was an isolated incident, but then they received another refund request. The customer reported that the raita and biryani in their order had spilt all over the place. They even posted a photo to show the mess. Once more, however, the restaurant saw details that didn’t seem natural. To be sure, they ran this photo of the food through the AI detector too. Same result – It was flagged as AI-generated.

In their video, Nini’s Kitchen explained something very important. For restaurants, this isn’t only about losing money. It’s about their hard work and reputation. The restaurant said it best in their video: “Trust shouldn’t be so easy to fake.” And honestly, that hits hard.

The Internet Is Shocked

Once the video went up, netizens immediately shared their shock and frustration. Some were disappointed and said, “Saw the same thing yesterday with another Ahmedabad-based brand. A new battle every day, it seems!” One user commented, “AI is making it easy to pull off anything.” “AI is scary,” said another. Some were even surprised AI could be used for this purpose and said, “I never thought this would be a real use case. It’s wild.” One user was frustrated, “This is disgusting. What have people fallen to?”

Restaurants now have to worry not just about food quality or delivery delays, but also about whether the complaints they receive are even real or AI. And with AI tools becoming so easy to use, this might only be the beginning.
