Kerala has witnessed a significant surge in liquor sales during the Onam festive season, with the state-run Kerala State Beverages Corporation (Bevco) recording sales worth ₹771.29 crore in the first eight days of the 10-day festival. Bevco outlets across the state sold liquor worth ₹771.29 crore up to August 25, marking a notable increase from the ₹694.96 crore recorded during the corresponding period of last year’s Onam celebrations. Kerala Witnesses Total Liquor Sales Worth ₹ 771.29 Cr During 8 Days Of Festival

According to Excise Department officials, on Uthradam, which fell on August 25 and is traditionally one of the busiest shopping days ahead of Thiruvonam, liquor sales through Bevco outlets stood at ₹126.31 crore. However, the figure was lower than the ₹137.64 crore recorded on the corresponding day in 2025. During the entire Onam season last year, Bevco recorded liquor sales of ₹826.38 crore. With two days of this year’s festivities remaining, officials expect the latest sales figure to cross last year’s total.

Bevco, a wholly owned Kerala government company, handles the procurement, distribution and retail sale of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), beer, wine, foreign-made foreign liquor (FMFL) and foreign-made wine (FMW) across the state.

Last Year’s Onam Sale In Kerala

Last year, Kerala recorded total liquor sales of ₹826.38 crore during the Onam season, with Bevco outlets witnessing particularly high demand in the days leading up to Thiruvonam. The strong sales made the Onam period one of the busiest festive seasons for liquor retailers in the state. With this year’s sales already reaching ₹771.29 crore by August 25, the 2026 figure is on track to surpass last year’s total once the remaining days are included.

The latest figures show that Kerala’s Onam liquor sales have grown significantly compared with last year. The ₹771.29 crore recorded in the first eight days of 2026 is already about ₹76.33 crore higher than the ₹694.96 crore recorded during the same period in 2025. This means sales have risen by nearly 11% year-on-year. With the final days of the festive period still to be accounted for, the overall tally is expected to set a new Onam sales record.
