Nothing about it immediately hints at dessert. Then the sweetness begins to creep in slowly.

Watching people attempt to decode the flavours is half the entertainment. The moment someone finally says “jalebi” usually lands with the kind of disbelief reserved for prank videos. The reactions feel genuine because the combination genuinely throws people off.

Jalebi already has a slight fermented tang beneath its sweetness, which is probably why it surprisingly lives the transition into chaat territory.
