Digital creator and chef Rinchen Wangdi Bhutia (@vlogginkitchen) recently took to his Instagram handle to share the recipe for popular street food Fumbi. The video begins with him saying, “Now you don’t have to visit Kalimpong or Darjeeling to have this Fumbi.” According to him, Fumbi “banana bohot hi simple hai” (It’s very easy to make).
In the video, he prepared Fumbi step-by-step and took a bite, where his reaction will make you want to try this dish ASAP! In the caption, he mentioned that this street food has a jelly-like consistency and is prepared by cooking down the residual water left after washing moong dal, and turmeric gives it a yellow colour.

Here’s The Recipe To Make Fumbi At Home
To prepare Fumbi at home, you don’t require any fancy ingredients, only the basic ones that are readily available at home.
Ingredients
- Moong dal
- Water
- Salt
- Turmeric
- Sesame seed paste (optional)
- Garlic water (optional)
- Garlic oil
Method
- Take one cup of moong dal, soak it in water overnight, and grind it into a smooth paste.
- Strain the paste using a thin cloth. Pour the starch mixture into a bowl and keep it in the refrigerator overnight.
- The next day, you can remove excess water and cook the starch mixture. Just add two cups of water, turmeric and salt to it.
- Cook the mixture on low heat for around 10-15 minutes.
- Now, transfer the hot mixture into a bowl and let it cool for a few hours till it sets completely.
- Once it cools down and has a jelly-like consistency, cut it into pieces and serve it with garlic oil.
- For added flavours, you can top it off with the sesame paste and seeds. You can also add garlic water as per your taste.
Following these simple steps, your delicious Fumbi is all set to eat. You can either heat it before eating or enjoy it cold.
