Here Are The Five Food Swaps

  1. Swap white bread for whole-grain sourdough: According to Dr Saurabh Sethi, sourdough is naturally fermented. It feeds good bacteria instead of spiking blood sugar.
  2. Swap flavoured yoghurt for plain kefir or dahi: Do not go for fruit-flavoured yoghurt that looks healthy. It is loaded with sugar that harms good bacteria. Choose plain kefir or dahi instead.
  3. Swap ripe bananas for slightly green bananas: Green bananas have more resistant starch. This helps feed good bacteria without spiking blood sugar.
  4. Swap diet sodas for sparkling water with lemon: Artificial sweeteners in diet sodas can disrupt the microbiome. Instead, choose sparkling water with lemon. It is healthy, tasty and refreshing.
  5. Swap processed meat for grilled or baked protein: Processed meat contains preservatives and can cause gut imbalance and inflammation. Choose grilled or baked protein options instead.
