Adani Airport City Limited (AACL), a fully owned subsidiary of Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), has unveiled plans to develop integrated airport cities across its airport network, transforming airports into mixed-use urban hubs consisting of hotels, retail, offices, entertainment zones and convention centres. Read on to know more.

Adani Airport To Build Spaces Across Major Cities

In the first stage, the company will invest over ₹20,000 crore to build nearly 22 million square feet of commercial office area across airports in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Jaipur and Guwahati.

The project will extend to more than 655 acres across six airports in five states, with almost 440 acres located in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai alone. Around 70% of the total capital allocated will be based in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, reflecting its significance as India’s commercial and aviation hub. Inspired by highly successful airport areas such as Singapore’s Changi, Dubai International, Amsterdam’s Schiphol and Seoul’s Incheon, the project is intended to build walkable metropolitan locations where tourists and local communities can comfortably access hotels, offices, shopping, dining, entertainment and convention facilities alongside airport and metro connectivity.

According to Jeet Adani, Director of AAHL, the project seeks to define airports as engines of economic growth rather than merely transport hubs. The projects are being planned with international architectural and technical companies and will focus on creating integrated districts that generate employment, attract investment and improve passenger experiences.

Hotels, Sustainability & Global Partnerships

As part of the project, AAHL has collaborated with IHG Hotels & Resorts to build five premium and luxury hotels, which will feature the India debut of the Kimpton brand. The business is also in discussions with domestic and international partners across hospitality, food and beverage, retail and entertainment.

Sustainability remains a major focus of the project. All Airport City projects have achieved LEED Gold pre-certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, acknowledging their emphasis on energy efficiency, sustainable design, walkability and high-quality public spaces.
