Indian travellers are increasingly trusting AI for itineraries, destination ideas, dining picks and budgets. Agoda’s latest report shows AI has become a major travel planning tool in India.

AI Takes Over Travel: 68% Of Indian Travellers Want AI Trips, 33% Already Use It

Trip planning has always had two moods. First comes excitement as you search for beach photos, mountain fantasies, and yell, “We should totally go this year.” Then comes the descent into madness with forty browser tabs, navigating reviews written in 2018 and a spreadsheet nobody updates. Somewhere in this chaos, Indian travellers appear to have found a solution–let AI handle it.

AI Is Planning Indian Travel Now, Says Agoda Report

Agoda’s 2026 Travel Outlook Report says 68% of Indian travellers are likely to use AI for their next trip. That number is significant because it moves AI out of novelty territory and straight into habit-forming behaviour. Another 33% said they already use AI for travel planning, so for millions of people, this shift has already begun subtly, probably while asking for cheaper flights and better hotel deals.

What are people asking AI to do? Pretty much everything short of carrying the luggage. The biggest demand is for discovering local attractions and activities, with 38% choosing that option. Nobody wants to come home and discover the best viewpoint, market, food lane, or museum was five minutes away the whole time.

Then 37% said they want personalised itineraries. This is where AI may genuinely save friendships. Human-made group travel plans usually collapse into two extremes: military-grade overplanning or total anarchy. If a machine can build a schedule that includes brunch, sightseeing, naps and one dramatic sunset, let it cook.

Around 29% want destination suggestions; this feels accurate for the modern traveller who is desperate for a break, incapable of choosing between mountains, islands, cities, forests or “somewhere visa-free.”

From Flights To Food: Indians Are Letting AI Plan Trips

Food, naturally, enters the chat next. Around 23% said they would use AI for dining recommendations, as they should. A bad meal on vacation can ruin your mood with shocking efficiency. Another 22% want help with budget management, because holiday spending has a magical way of becoming someone else’s problem until the statement arrives.

Now for the surprising bit: trust. Nearly 9 in 10 Indian travellers, 88%, said they either trust or feel neutral about AI-generated travel recommendations. More than half, 53%, expressed clear trust. That is a huge vote of confidence, especially in a country where people still ask cousins, colleagues, and one random Instagram creator before booking anything.

Agoda says this lines up with its 2025 Travel Trends survey, where nine in ten Indian travellers reported using travel apps while booking trips. India has already spent years planning holidays through screens.

The company tested this appetite in 2025 with its AI-powered Vacation Planner campaign. Travellers answered questions about preferences and received customised itineraries, destination visuals and recommendations delivered by Ayushmann Khurrana. Because if technology is taking over, Bollywood was never going to miss the cameo.

Gaurav Malik, Country Director, Indian Subcontinent & Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, said travellers in India are embracing AI across every stage of planning, from discovering destinations, choosing meals, to budgeting and more.
