For many Indians, travel trends in 2025 have been about finding joy, calm, and a quick reset. Booking.com’s mid-year data shows that two out of three Indian travellers picked holidays to lift their mood, while more than half leaned on short domestic breaks to recharge. Another 36% took the leap abroad, mostly to nearby hubs that promised culture and convenience without long-haul exhaustion.
India’s Map Of Movement
“The mindset is shifting,” said Santosh Kumar, Regional Manager, South Asia at Booking.com, about travel trends in 2025. “We’re seeing people weave wellness, lifestyle, and curiosity into their travel choices. With 84% of Indians optimistic about travelling in 2025, the momentum is clear, and we want to make every step, from flights to local attractions, as seamless as possible.”
Cities still drew the crowds. Bengaluru, Mumbai and New Delhi sat comfortably on top, thanks to work trips, family ties, and the ease of quick city escapes.
But beyond the metros, the search curve bent towards leisure. Ooty, Lonavala, Jaipur, Rishikesh and Puducherry stood out, with Rishikesh and Puducherry clocking a 25% year-on-year jump in searches. According to the 2025 travel trends report, Wellness retreats, riverside yoga, colonial cafés, and beach walks were the hooks.

India Sees Shift In Travel Trends In 2025
Abroad, Dubai reigned supreme. Searches for the city shot up 62%, as a sign that its mix of luxury shopping, family parks, and weekend accessibility keeps Indians coming back. Singapore and Bangkok followed, cementing the short-haul Asia circuit as the go-to for Indian holidaymakers.
The surprise spike comes from Tokyo! Searches for the Japanese capital grew 90%, propelling it into the top five alongside London and Paris. Whether it’s cherry blossoms, ramen alleys or anime culture, Tokyo has clearly cracked the Indian imagination. Kuala Lumpur, Phuket, Bali, and Abu Dhabi rounded out the list, all resonating with the demand for culture-packed yet visa-friendly escapes.

India’s travel trends in 2025 mirror what’s happening across the Asia-Pacific. Japan, South Korea and Thailand remain the hottest destinations region-wide, while homegrown favourites such as Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, and Sydney continue to draw travellers in their own markets.
Across APAC, nine out of ten top searches stayed within the region. Only London and Paris managed to sneak onto India’s and Hong Kong’s lists, proving that even in an era of global curiosity, travel trends are still leaning on the comfort of proximity, familiarity, and ease.
If H1 is any signal, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of balance for Indian travel trends: city lights and mountain quiet, nearby getaways and cultural adventures just a flight away.
