Did You Know This Temple Visited By Virat Kohli Is Linked To Prahalad And Lord Narasimha?

India has many temples known for their spiritual healing and history. One such temple located in South India is the Simhachalam Temple. Recently visited by cricketer Virat Kohli after his series against South Africa, this temple stands out for its peaceful atmosphere and cultural significance. Scroll down to know what makes it special.

Simhachalam Temple In Vishakhapatnam

Nestled on a hilltop, Simhachalam Temple in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, is dedicated to Lord Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha, which is a form of Lord Vishnu. As this temple sits 800 metres above sea level, it gives visitors amazing views of the forests and valleys below. Whether you come for spirituality or just to enjoy nature, reaching the temple is a truly rewarding experience.

The temple follows a strict daily prayer routine, which includes early morning rituals, multiple poojas throughout the day, and evening aarti. The temple is also known for its strong cultural significance. It has inscriptions that date back to the 11th century, including those from the Chola period and the reign of Sri Krishna Devaraya. Along with this, the temple also features 250+ ancient texts in the Telugu and Oriya languages. With these inscriptions, it’s clear that the temple has witnessed different eras, making it a must-visit for those who love history.

Connection To Prahalad And Lord Narasimha

Another highlight of this South Indian temple is its connection to Prahalad and Lord Narasimha. The story says that Lord Narasimha saved Prahalad on this very hill. Prahalad later built this temple to show his devotion towards Lord Vishnu.

If you’re planning a visit, the Akshaya Tritiya festival will be next in April 2026, as it is a special time to see the temple. During this festival, the sandalwood paste covering the idol is removed, and devotees can view the deity’s original form for a few hours. The temple is a peaceful spot to slow down, relax, and reflect away from daily life. And even our favourite cricketer, Virat Kohli, couldn’t resist visiting this gem at the hilltop.
