India Is Developing Its Fastest-Ever Bullet Train
Indian Railways is now working on developing the B35, a homegrown high-speed train. This train is expected to reach a speed of up to 350 kmph. This project is part of India’s plan to develop local railway technology and reduce foreign dependence. India is planning to develop these trains by 2030.
As per NDTV report, Japan decided in 2024 to stop producing its E5 trains and will start working on the E10 trains in 2030. These trains are expected to enter service by 2034. It has been said that the B35 trains will have capabilities comparable to Japan’s next-generation E10 bullet train. Once available, India is also considering using E10 trainsets.

Country To First Launch B28 Train
Before launching the B35, India is working on the B28 high-speed trainsets. They will have a design speed of 280 kmph, while their maximum operating speed is expected to be around 249 kmph. Two B28 prototype trains are expected to be ready for testing in the first quarter of 2027. BEML, a government-owned company, has already received orders to make 32 B28 trains. It has also received another order worth ₹5,400 crore for 15 more trains. So, BEML has orders for a total of 47 B28 trains.
B28 trains are being developed for India’s first high-speed rail corridor, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project. The project will cover 508 km and connect Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. It will have a total of 12 stations along the route.
