India’s first bullet train is a high-speed rail project connecting Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The first section of the route is planned to open on August 15, 2027. Running between Mumbai in Maharashtra and Ahmedabad in Gujarat, this bullet train in India is expected to cut travel time between the two cities from six to seven hours to just about two hours.
According to NDTV, construction work for India’s first bullet train is in full swing, especially across the scenic terrain of Thane and Palghar in Maharashtra. The construction covers a 135.45-km elevated stretch from Silphata in Thane to Zaroli village near the Maharashtra-Gujarat border. The project also includes extensive tunnelling through the hills, and seven mountain tunnels are being planned along this section. A video was uploaded on X by the official page of the BJP showing the work in progress.

Over 100 Km Pier Construction Completed
According to NDTV, this dream project of India is inching closer to reality. More than 100 km of pier construction has been completed. You would also like to know that three elevated bullet train stations are currently under construction at Thane, Virar and Boisar. The Thane station in Maharashtra has been designed with its concourse level around 12 metres above the ground. This is done to minimise the impact on nearby mangrove ecosystems in the area.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train has also made progress in tunnelling work, with drainage, waterproofing and tunnel-lining work now underway. The high-speed corridor spans 508 km, and its bullet train will use advanced Japanese Shinkansen train technology.
