Bhumi Pednekkar is on a mission to travel this year and she has visited places like Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and more already. Her latest destination is Sikkim. Layered in warm clothes, she visited some of the most beautiful places in the northeastern state like Tsomgo Lake and Nathula Pass.

Besides seeing the stunning places, she also met soldiers stationed at these high posts. Talking about this experience, she wrote, “Standing there, at such extreme altitudes, meeting the soldiers who guard our borders with unwavering courage and commitment, filled me with immense gratitude.”

She ended her post with a heartwarming note, “India never stops surprising me. And every journey leaves me wanting to discover more.”

5 Places To Visit In The Beautiful Northeastern State

1. Tsomgo Lake

Also called the Changu Lake, Tsomgo is an awe-inspiring high-altitude glacial lake. Located about 38 km from Gangtok, it is nestled at a height of 12,400 feet and is considered sacred by the locals. It looks like a snowy wonderland in winter and turns into a vibrant haven with alpine flowers in the summer. So, make sure this place is on your Sikkim itinerary, just like Bhumi Pednekkar.

2. Nathula Pass

About 25 minutes from Tsomgo Lake, you can experience the ancient Silk Route at Nathula Pass. Nestled at 14,140 feet, this pass lies near the Indo-China border and you need permits to visit this place. Also known as Sikkim’s Valley of Flowers, Yumthang Valley is a nature lover’s paradise. From sprawling alpine meadows and vibrant spring blooms featuring more than 24 species of rhododendrons to soothing natural hot springs and breathtaking views of snow-clad Himalayan peaks, the valley offers an unforgettable experience.

4. Gurudongmar Lake

One of the highest and most pristine lakes in the world, Gurudongmar Lake is located at an elevation of 17,800 ft! Surrounded by snow-capped Himalayan peaks, its crystal-clear turquoise waters create a breathtaking sight that every traveller should experience at least once. As the lake is located close to an international border, visitors are required to obtain special permits.

5. Baba Harbhajan Singh Shrine

Bhumi Pednekkar also visited Baba Harbhajan Singh Shrine in Sikkim. It is a revered military shrine located between Nathula and Jelepla passes, named after Sepoy Harbhajan Singh of the 23rd Punjab Regiment. It is said that he went missing during a border patrol in October 1968 and appeared in a colleague’s dream, revealing the location of his mortal remains. Even today, soldiers believe his spirit guards the border and warns them of incoming dangers.
