Why Vande Bharat Trains Can’t Pick Up Speed In Kerala? Here’s All You Need To Know

When we travel by Vande Bharat, things like comfortable seats and good service matter. But what impresses us the most is how quickly the train reaches its destination. However, Kerala passengers may not enjoy the same speed. Vande Bharat trains in the state cannot increase their speed under the current track conditions. Read on to know why! 

Why Can’t Vande Bharat Trains Run Faster In Kerala? 

During a media interaction, experts from the Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) talked about the speed of Vande Bharat trains in Kerala. According to them, the speed of the trains cannot be increased. At present, the trains are running at around 90 kmph in Kerala. However, in several other states, the speed is around 140 kmph.

We know this may have left you confused and wondering why Vande Bharat trains in Kerala cannot run at the same speed. Well, it’s because of the structure of the railway tracks in Kerala. As per Metro Vaartha report, the tracks have many curves, making it difficult for trains to maintain high speeds safely. These trains cannot run above 110–130 kmph on several sections.

Other Factors Affecting Speed 

Curves are not the only reason why the speed is not increasing. According to Metro Vaartha report, the current signalling system also has some limitations. Frequent stops further affect the train’s overall speed. Land acquisition is another issue. Delays in getting the required land have slowed work on improving some curves. This has also affected the development of railway infrastructure in Kerala.

But let’s not lose hope! The situation might improve in the future. Railway officials said trains could run faster if the tracks are upgraded and signalling systems are improved. Such changes would require major decisions at the policy and political level.
