For Indian-origin tech professional Ankita Mishra, achievement wasn’t defined by career milestones alone. It was the moment when she could finally bring her parents to the United States and show them the life they had sacrificed so much to help her build. Want to know more about it? Read on!

Indian Origin Techie Brings Parents To US After 10 Years

In a heartfelt LinkedIn post, the Seattle-based senior product manager at Atlassian revealed that, after more than 3,620 days of living in the US, she had finally warmly welcomed her parents for their first visit. The trip was entirely planned and funded by her, completing a promise she had made to herself nearly a decade ago.

Ankita disclosed that the dream began when she first moved to the US in her early 20s. “One day, I would save enough to fly my parents to America,” she wrote. Although she graduated in 2019 and intended to make it happen soon after, the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by her wedding in 2024 and other family responsibilities, delayed those plans.

When the reunion finally happened, it was deeply emotional. Looking back on her parents’ journey, Ankita spoke about the sacrifices that they made for her future. She explained that her mother married at 19, while her father spent years as the sole earning member of the family, saving every rupee to give his daughter better opportunities. “Every sacrifice they made was so I could stand in an airport holding a sign for them, instead of the other way around,” she wrote.

Heartfelt Post Recieves Praise From Social Media

Describing the significance of the moment, Mishra added, “3,620+ days passed between the day I landed in this country and the day I stood at the airport watching my parents and in-laws walk through those doors together. That’s the real timeline of an immigrant story, built brick by brick and visa by visa.”

She concluded by saying that, for many immigrants, the biggest motivation behind years of hard work is giving their parents “a front-row seat to the life they gave everything for.”

Her post struck a chord with people across social media. Many shared similar stories of bringing their parents abroad for graduations, weddings and other milestones. One user recalled using their savings to fly their parents to the US for their graduation despite losing their job, while others said Mishra’s story reflected the dreams and sacrifices of countless immigrant families.
