In order to reduce human-wildlife conflict, the Maharashtra government has now approved a ₹260 crore action plan. This includes setting up artificial intelligence (AI)-based alert systems, control rooms, rescue centres, treatment centres and more. All these new changes will not just protect humans but also wildlife.
Maharashtra To Set Up AI-Based Wildlife Alert Systems In 1,000 Villages
The ₹260 crore action plan approved by the State Wildlife Board was much needed. It will not just help prevent conflicts between humans and wildlife but also help track the movement of wild animals. According to Hindustan Times, the authorities will set up AI-based wildlife alert systems in 1,000 villages. Apart from that, there will also be advanced control rooms, rescue centres and rapid response teams across Maharashtra.
The decision was approved during a meeting of the standing committee of the Maharashtra Wildlife Board by Forest Minister Ganesh Naik recently. The approved action plan aims to prevent attacks by wild animals and reduce the loss of human life in areas close to forests.

Modern Control Rooms & Wildlife Rescue Centres
According to Hindustan Times, authorities are planning 10 modern control rooms modelled on police control centres. These will be established in different parts of the state and will be equipped with digital systems. The system will be advanced enough to track forest department resources, vehicles and patrolling teams.
Moreover, Maharashtra will also expand its AI-based alert system, which is currently being tested in around 1,000 villages near forest areas. The system is designed to immediately alert villagers about the movement or presence of wild animals outside forest areas. This will allow people to remain alert.
Along with this, the government is also planning two wildlife rescue centres and 10 transit treatment centres for injured or rescued wild animals. Twenty rapid rescue teams will also be formed to respond to wildlife emergencies.
