The airline has reduced around 100 daily flights overall, which is expected to impact many travellers. Keep reading to know more about this.
Air India Cuts Several International Flights
Air India, the flag carrier of India owned by the Tata Group, has now decided to implement significant cuts across its international network for three months. According to India Today, the airline has cut about 100 daily flights from June 2026 to August 2026, including several long-haul flights.
The decision was taken due to surging fuel costs and airspace restrictions that continue to increase operating costs for many airlines. The airline has fully suspended flights from Delhi to destinations like Chicago, Newark, Singapore, and Shanghai. Not just that, but Air India has also reduced flight frequencies to international cities like San Francisco, Paris, and Toronto.
Affected passengers will be informed in advance and will be offered alternatives, including rescheduling and refunds. Plus, these are temporary adjustments as part of Air India’s efforts to minimise last-minute disruptions across its international network.

Rising Jet Fuel Prices Are Affecting Airlines
The decision is expected to impact many travellers. As per a report by India Today, the move comes at a time when jet fuel prices have surged sharply due to ongoing tensions in West Asia. Reportedly, global average jet fuel prices increased to $162.89 (₹15,584 approx.) per barrel compared to $99.40 (₹9,510 approx.) per barrel at the end of February.
You should know that fuel is one of the biggest expenses for any airline. It accounts for nearly 40% of total operating costs. Many airlines resort to measures like increasing flight ticket prices or reducing flights to offset rising jet fuel costs. Reportedly, Air India may continue reducing international services because airspace restrictions have made several routes unprofitable.
