Indian woman Priyanka Sinha (@ppriyankasinha), who lives in Singapore, took to her social media handle to make people aware of one of the country’s strict rules. In the video, she showed a tree filled with mangoes, with some even fallen on the ground. If it had been India, people would have instantly picked them up. But this was Singapore.
Priyanka explained that in Singapore, even picking up fallen mangoes from public areas can lead to a fine of SGD 5,000, which is around ₹3.74 lakh in Indian currency. In the video, she also mentioned that the mangoes looked absolutely delicious.
The video quickly grabbed attention on social media and sparked a debate among internet users. Some people appreciated Singapore’s strict laws and said such rules help maintain order in the country. Others, however, questioned why perfectly good fruit should go to waste.

What Does Singapore’s Law Say?
The Singapore Ministry of National Development clearly states that trees and fruits growing on State land belong to the government. According to Hindustan Times, the ministry added that the National Parks Board, also known as NParks, manages most of these trees. Anyone who wishes to pluck fruit or collect fallen fruit from State land must first seek permission from NParks.
Under Singapore’s Parks and Trees Act, people who collect or pluck fruit in public parks without approval can face a fine of up to ₹3.75 lakh. In nature reserves or national parks, the punishment can become even stricter with a fine of up to 37.59 lakh, and even possible jail time of up to six months.
So, if you’re in Singapore, make sure you follow the rules and don’t pick fallen fruits!
