Every year after Ganpati Visarjan, many beaches get polluted because of puja waste and other materials. To restore them, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ wife, Amruta Fadnavis, decided to come up with a beach clean-up drive. The clean-up drive was organised on Mumbai’s Juhu beach on Sunday, September 7. Many people joined in the drive, and one of them was Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar. A video has been going all over social media where Akshay Kumar is seen collecting waste and putting it in a large bag. Read for more details.
Clean Drive In Mumbai’s Juhu Beach
In talks with Hindustan Times, Amruta Fadnavis said that since we have only one earth, it is the duty of everyone to keep its beaches and forests clean. She also shared that the aim behind this clean-up drive is to help people understand the importance of keeping public spaces clean. The clean-up drive was organised by Amruta Fadnavis’ non-government organisation known as Divyaj Foundation.
Many people joined in this social activity, and among them were Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) commissioner Bhushan Gagrani. In the video posted on social media, Akshay Kumar came wearing gloves and started picking garlands, bottles and other puja waste. Before the end of the Ganesh festival, Amruta Fadnavis had addressed the environmental concerns, according to Hindustan Times reports. She said that she was happy to welcome Bappa, but she also highlighted that people should also think about the environment. After the clean-up drive, she thanked Akshay Kumar and Bhushan Gagrani for their support.
Ganesh Festival In Mumbai
Ganesh Chaturthi in Mumbai is always celebrated on a grand scale. This 10-day festival brings unity and joy to the city. On Saturday, the festival came to an end with idol immersions. On Visarjan day, many people immerse Lord Ganesha idols at the beach, which leads to pollution. To prevent this, in recent years, people have started preparing eco-friendly idols that dissolve in water quickly and cause less harm to the environment. Even the famous Visatcha Samrat and Raja Tejukaycha idols are eco-friendly.
Amruta Fadnavis’s clean-up drive shows how people can celebrate grand festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi while protecting the environment. It’s great to see volunteers coming forward to take this initiative.
