Bengaluru Maid’s Corporate-Style Sick Leave Note Goes Viral; Netizens Call It ‘Real Professionalism’

Bengaluru doesn’t need much to remind people of its corporate soul. Between startup jargon, late-night Zoom calls, and precisely formatted emails, the city thrives on a culture of efficiency. But sometimes, that culture seeps into places you least expect. A recent LinkedIn post depicting a Bengaluru maid’s sick leave message captured exactly that, and it has taken the internet by storm.

Woman Posts Peak Bengaluru Moment

The post came from a woman in Bengaluru who shared how her househelp applies for sick leave. Her post showed the maid’s sick leave message and was captioned as a “peak Bengaluru moment.” It was a chat screenshot, not with a short “I’m not coming” or a rushed call, but with a message so carefully worded it could pass for an office email. In polished English, the helper explained why she wouldn’t be able to work, almost mirroring the formal tone that employees use when writing to their managers.

“My househelp takes sick leave more professionally than half the people I’ve worked with,” the woman admitted, adding that this wasn’t a one-time thing. Every time the maid falls sick, she sends a similar note. It is well-framed, polite, and detailed.

Bengaluru Maid’s Sick Leave Message Sparks Reactions

That screenshot shared as a “peak Bengaluru moment” sparked a flood of reactions. Some were amused, while others were genuinely impressed. One commenter confessed, “I don’t even bother giving reasons when I take PTO. This is way more professional than me.”

Another penned down, “Mine once brought medicines for me when I was sick. That’s the real Bengaluru spirit.” Someone else pointed out regional contrasts with a laugh: “In Delhi, my maid sends me a voice note, ‘Aaj nahi aaungi’ and that’s it.”

However, not everyone saw it as endearing. A few readers criticised the post for making private conversations public. “If my employer ever shared my messages online, I wouldn’t find it funny,” one person remarked. That critique struck a chord, too, reminding people that professionalism cuts both ways.

Still, most responses circled back to one thing: the way Bengaluru’s corporate culture has spilt beyond boardrooms and into households. In a city where communication is currency, it’s perhaps unsurprising that even domestic workers are picking up on the language of formality and precision. It’s hard not to smile at the irony. In a place where countless employees scramble to wordsmith leave requests, a maid has quietly mastered the art!
