When we go to the airport, we usually expect a normal security check, followed by boarding the flight and reaching our destination. However, one incident recently caught our attention where a routine security check at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi turned into a 15-minute cultural audit. And guess what caused it? A sindoor! Scroll down to know what happened.
An Unexpected Security Check At Delhi Airport
Taking to her social media handle, traveller Aakanksha Sadekar Chauhan (@scotthakuraaiin) shared an unusual experience at Delhi Airport. She was going through a routine security check when a CRPF officer checking her purse noticed a small box of orange powder and asked what it was. When she casually replied that it was sindoor, the officer looked confused and began asking questions. Recalling the moment, she wrote, “Delhi airport security just gave me a 15-minute cultural audit.”
After noticing her surname, the officer even asked if it was her first or second marriage and wondered why a Marathi woman was wearing sindoor. The traveller said she had to spend nearly 15 minutes explaining that she had married a man from Uttar Pradesh and that it was normal for her to wear it. She later joked that the officer seemed puzzled, and she was relieved he didn’t check her British passport.
Internet Users Share Reactions
The unusual incident faced by a woman traveller at Delhi Airport quickly spread across social media. Within a few hours, many netizens shared their reactions, and the responses were quite mixed.
One user wrote, “‘Pehli shaadi hai ya dusri?’ A question I never thought someone could face during airport security.”
Many users found the situation surprising and said such questions are unusual during routine security checks.
Another user added, “It’s normal and can happen anytime, anywhere in India because there are no laws, just flaws. If you had recorded a video on camera, it would have become international news by now.”
One user commented, “Hahaha! Interesting. I’m glad that the CRPF officer was doing his job properly. He was actually paying attention to the details and thinking about it all. Sure, it may have been annoying for you, Aakanksha, but I’m glad our security is in good hands.”
