Delhi Airport: 6.37 Kg Of Weed Found In Aircraft Toilets, Under Seats; 3 Arrested

Smuggling attempts at Indian airports often keep authorities on high alert. In a recent case at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, Customs officials seized more than 6 kg of suspected hydroponic weed and arrested three passengers who had arrived from Thailand. Read on to know more!

6.37 Kg Of Suspected Hydroponic Weed Seized At Delhi Airport

According to Customs officials, 6.37 kg of suspected hydroponic weed was seized, and three passengers were arrested in separate cases. As per Hindustan Times,  these passengers had arrived from Bangkok and Phuket. In the first case, officials stopped an Indian passenger who arrived from Bangkok on Monday, July 13. They intercepted the passenger based on information received through the Advance Passenger Information System (APIS).

After the passenger crossed the Green Channel, officials questioned him. Although no suspicious items were found in his baggage, Customs officers decided to thoroughly search the aircraft. During the search, they found 3.47 kg of suspected hydroponic weed hidden inside the rear lavatories of the aircraft. During questioning, the passenger admitted to concealing the packets.

How Officials Found The Remaining Weed Packets

In another case, Customs officers stopped a passenger arriving from Phuket. The passenger had hidden 1.5 kg of suspected hydroponic weed underneath the seats in Row 12.

In the third case, a passenger arriving from Bangkok was stopped on Sunday, July 12. Officials carried out an X-ray screening of the baggage. During the scan, they noticed suspicious images and decided to conduct a detailed search. The inspection led to the recovery of two vacuum-sealed packets containing around 1.4 kg of suspected hydroponic weed.

Authorities arrested all three passengers under Section 43(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Officials also seized the suspected contraband under Section 43(a) of the Act.
