Summer heat not only affects humans but also lakes, rivers, birds, and animals. This year, the summer has been worse, especially in Delhi. The heatwave in the capital has caused a serious ecological problem at Sanjay Lake, where hundreds of dead fish were found floating along the shore. Read to know what happened!
Hundreds Of Dead Fish Found In Sanjay Lake
Sanjay Lake, located in East Delhi’s Trilokpuri, has recently turned into a heartbreaking and disturbing sight. Just a few days back, hundreds of fish were reported dead in the lake. The lake has always been a peaceful place for nature lovers to walk around and enjoy the greenery. But right now, visitors are only dealing with the strong foul smell coming from the dead fish.
What caused the death of these fish? As per WION, the lake’s water level dropped sharply during the intense heatwave. For the past few days, the temperature in Delhi has touched 45°C. The extreme heat reduced the amount of dissolved oxygen in the water, making it difficult for the fish to survive. Also, according to experts, the lack of fresh water flow made the lake stagnant, causing oxygen levels to drop quickly.

Workers Arrived At The Spot To Remove Dead Fishes
On social media, various images showing hundreds of dead fish in the lake have gone viral. Workers later arrived at the lake to remove the dead fish from the water. It was found that several species were affected, including mosquito fish, tilapia, larger tilapia, and carp-like fish among the dead.
Reports say the problem is also connected to a damaged pipeline linked to the Kondli sewage treatment plant (STP). Officials took several days to locate the leak, and this delay interrupted the water supply, making the lake more stagnant. The pipe is now being repaired.
We hope to get some relief from this intense heat!
