Delhi’s Last Red DTC Bus Retires
The last CNG-run DTC bus in Delhi has completed its service life and has now been sent for scrapping. As per Hindustan Times report, this bus used to run from Rajghat Depot-I on route 4,038. The bus was numbered DL 1PD 4038.
When Did The Last Red DTC Bus Start Service?
The last red DTC bus that retired began its service in September 2011 and completed 15 years of service this month. Before retiring, the bus travelled 9,27,951.9 km.
These red CNG-run DTC buses played a crucial role in daily commuting. They came with air-conditioning, low floors for easier access and automated doors, making travel more comfortable for passengers. With the retirement of this bus, the Delhi Transport Corporation’s own bus fleet has also come to an end. The remaining 1,861 green CNG buses are now managed by private concessionaires.

How Did Staff Members Bid Farewell To The Bus?
The farewell of the last red CNG-run DTC bus was quiet. DTC staff gathered around the bus and clicked pictures as a memory to cherish forever. For drivers, conductors and everyone else who spent years working with these buses across the capital, it was an emotional moment and the beginning of something new.
These CNG buses were introduced in Delhi in the 1990s when the capital decided to take measures to reduce air pollution. In July 1998, the Supreme Court ordered Delhi to convert all its city buses to CNG as the main fuel by March 31, 2001. Following this, older diesel buses were gradually replaced with CNG buses.
