Mumbai’s Neville D’Souza Football Ground Set For Change
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has approved a proposal to bring the major change at Neville D’Souza Football Ground in Bandra. The ground is currently meant to be used as a playground. As per India Today, however, under the new plan, it will be turned into a convention and exhibition centre.
This proposal received approval at the BMC general body meeting on Tuesday night. Sandhya Doshi, chairman of the Improvement Committee and a Shiv Sena corporator, put forward the proposal.

Football Players And Residents Disappointed
As this decision was announced, many football players and others expressed their disappointment. This is because the city has already lost many grounds, and if this ground also shuts down, people will not have enough places to play. According to them, if this playground goes, they will lose a part of Mumbai’s football identity.
Actress Genelia D’Souza also took to social media, writing, “Break my heart. I played football here and so did my boys and just like that it’s gone.”
The football ground also holds strong historical significance. It was named after Neville D’Souza, who became the first Indian footballer to score a hat-trick at the Olympics while playing against Australia.
