According to officials, a forest department staffer spotted the elephants near the tracks at Hawaipur while the Down Rajdhani Express was approaching. The alert was immediately relayed to the loco pilot and the Lumding Railway Control Room. The train was halted temporarily, allowing the herd to cross the tracks safely. Once the elephants had moved away from the railway line, the Rajdhani Express resumed its journey.
Assam Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah shared a video of the incident on social media and described the unscheduled halt as a moment that gave the “adorable giants” a safe passage.
The minister credited the quick response of forest department personnel, the loco pilot and the Lumding Railway Control Room for preventing a potentially dangerous encounter.
