Delhi Govt Makes Pink Card Compulsory For Women From August 1
According to DTC officials, the upgrade is part of a planned transition from the existing paper-based pink tickets to a digital smart card system. As per a report by The Print, from August 1 onwards, free travel tickets will only be accessible to women carrying a valid Pink Saheli card, which must be tapped while getting on the bus. Those who do not have the card will have to purchase regular tickets by paying the applicable fare.
To motivate more women to enrol, DTC has started a special awareness drive across its buses, encouraging passengers to apply for the Pink Saheli card. The authorities have also set up 50 approved centres across Delhi where qualified women can get the smart card.
So far, approximately 11 lakh Pink Saheli cards have been issued, and the Delhi government seeks to increase the number to 13 lakh by the end of July before the new norm comes into effect. The initiative is planned to streamline the free travel program while reducing dependence on paper tickets.
