West Bengal will soon be home to a massive 60-Foot Maa Durga statue at Ramkrishnapur Ghat in Howrah. The statue is expected to become a prominent cultural and tourist landmark on the banks of the Hooghly River. Authorities plan to complete the first phase of construction before the Durga Puja celebrations begin this year.

60-Foot Maa Durga Statue In West Bengal

The 60-foot-tall Ashtadhatu Maa Durga statue in West Bengal will also have lightning protection. The idol, which is being built along the Hooghly River in Howrah, is expected to become one of the major landmarks in the area. According to News18, the project is part of a broader makeover of the Howrah riverfront aimed at boosting tourism and improving public spaces.

Apart from the statue, authorities also plan to revamp several ghats along the Howrah riverfront. The first phase of the project is expected to be completed before the Durga Puja season this year. The first phase has been allocated approximately ₹2 crore, and the project is being undertaken by the Urban Development Department and the port authorities.

Kolkata Eye Is Also Planned

There is one more significant development. According to News18, the authorities are also planning a ‘Kolkata Eye’ modelled on the iconic London Eye. It will be developed by a private company, and approximately 4.5 acres of land along the riverfront have been designated for the project. Once complete, the giant observation wheel will offer panoramic views of Kolkata, Howrah, and the Hooghly River.

The Kolkata Eye will definitely become a great addition to the city’s waterfront landscape. Moreover, authorities are also planning to install public art, beautify ghats, and create more tourism-oriented activities to increase visitor footfall in the area.
