Astronomers Mesmerised By The Blood Moon In India

Witnessing a blood moon is rare. Imagine the moon turning copperish-red and leaving you spellbound. This total lunar eclipse began with the penumbral phase at 8:58 pm, reached the partial phase by 9:57 pm, and gradually slipped deeper into Earth’s shadow. As per a report by Times Now, the moon entered its full lunar mode by 11:01 pm and turned coppery-red. Let’s see how it looked across different cities.

1. Thiruvananthapuram

An X user, @SumitHansd, posted beautiful images of the blood moon from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. It was honestly nature’s own show. The blood moon effect occurs when sunlight passes through Earth’s atmosphere, scattering blue light and allowing only red wavelengths to illuminate the lunar surface.

2. Chennai

This rare celestial event had everyone in Chennai looking up at the sky. One X user, @Mukesh_Venky, wrote: “Total Lunar Eclipse (Blood Moon) is happening right now! It’s clearly visible across all of India, including Chennai. Look up and witness this stunning celestial event!” while sharing pictures of the glowing red coloured moon.

3. Delhi

The lunar eclipse as seen from New Delhi was equally breathtaking. According to a report by Times Now, the total phase lasted 82 minutes, concluding at 12:23 a.m. The partial phase continued until 1:26 am and concluded at 2:25 am. Unlike solar eclipses, this one was safe to watch with the naked eye, binoculars, or telescopes.
