India’s First Bullet Train To Begin Operation In 2027
As per a report by NDTV, the Union Railway Minister announced that India’s first bullet train service will start from August 15, 2027 with regular operations being introduced in phases instead of waiting for the entire route to be completed.
The first stretch to open will link Surat and Bilimora in Gujarat. Following this, the rest of the sections of the 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor will be launched in stages, including Vapi-Surat, Vapi-Ahmedabad, Ahmedabad-Thane and finally Ahmedabad-Mumbai.

Sharing the update on social media, the Railway Ministry quoted Vaishnaw and wrote, “India’s first Bullet Train enters its next chapter. Starting next year, the under-construction Mumbai-Amdavad High-Speed Rail corridor will open phase by phase, beginning with the Surat-Bilimora section.”
According to the minister, nearly 80% of the project has already been finished, with construction progressing rapidly. Once fully completed, the high-speed rail route is expected to significantly cut travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad while improving regional connectivity and supporting economic growth.
Bullet Train Corridors Planned Across India
Apart from the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route, the authorities have also presented plans to expand India’s high-speed rail network. The official announced that three new bullet train corridors centred around Hyderabad have been proposed to enhance connectivity across southern India.
The planned routes include Pune-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Chennai and Hyderabad-Bengaluru, while a Hyderabad-Mumbai high-speed rail link is also expected to reduce travel time a lot.
