India’s railway network is one of the largest and fastest-expanding in the world. After introducing semi-high-speed trains like the Vande Bharat Express, the country is now developing its first bullet train corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, with several more high-speed rail projects proposed in this year’s Union Budget. One of them is the Delhi-Varanasi bullet train corridor, which is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
Proposed Delhi-Varanasi Bullet Train To Reduce Travel Time
According to Hindustan Times, Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the proposed Delhi-Varanasi bullet train will reduce travel time between Jewar and Lucknow to around 1 hour and 40 minutes. The journey from Delhi to Lucknow is also expected to take just 2 hours and 10 minutes, which currently takes about six to ten hours.
The Railways Minister said that once the corridor becomes operational, it will significantly improve connectivity across Uttar Pradesh. He added that the high-speed rail project is expected to boost industrial growth, strengthen regional connectivity, and drive economic development in the state.
Reports also suggest that the proposed Delhi-Varanasi bullet train could reduce travel time between the two cities to around 3.5 to 6 hours, depending on the final route alignment and the type of service, such as express or limited-stop operations.
