Lotus Biscoff is having its moment in India! The perfectly spiced caramelised coffee biscuit was created in Belgium in 1932. Today, Lotus Biscoff has made its way to milkshakes, cheesecakes, and dessert menus in India. Sweet, warm notes of caramel and a touch of cinnamon are what make Lotus Biscoff the perfect companion to coffee. While many are raving over it, journalist Shiv Aroor has a different take. Recently, he called the coffee biscuit “mediocre” on social media. This time, the Internet wasn’t forgiving. 

Shiv Aroor Finds Lotus Biscoff “Mediocre”

Managing Editor of NDTV, Shiv Aroor, shares his unabashed food opinions on X (formerly Twitter) with a ‘Mediocre Food Series’. His controversial food opinions often trigger foodies and garner heated reactions in the comments section. This time, he touched a nerve with Lotus Biscoff lovers. Sharing a picture of the iconic Belgian coffee biscuit, he declared the food item “mediocre”. Following it up with a hashtag, #ShivsMediocreFoods. His caption read, “This week in mediocre foods: LOTUS BISCOFF BISCUITS #ShivsMediocreFoods.”

Needless to say, his post against Lotus Biscoff garnered a lot of attention on social media. With 425.7k views, 419 comments and 300 reposts, this food opinion has certainly grabbed eyeballs. Smita Prakash, the Editor of Asian News International, immediately shut him down. She wrote, “Just sit down! They are so so good.” Parth Sane wrote, “They make one hell of a cheesecake, though.”

Netizens Have Mixed Opinions

Another X user wrote, “His taste buds are also pathetic.” One X user agreed with him and wrote, “This isn’t just mediocre, it’s a dangerous food. It’s nothing but sugar and calories, something no sane individual should be consuming.” Similarly, another commenter shared the ingredient list and cautioned people to stay away from the high-sugar biscuit. Others went back loyally to Parle-G.
