One user even called it a ‘survival kit’, sharing, “Believe me, this is a ‘survival kit.’ I remember one time we were travelling to South India. Back then, electrification was limited and most trains on that route were pulled by diesel locomotives. Trains often didn’t have a pantry car, and even the compartments weren’t connected.

We were stranded for a good 8–10 hours because of a goods train derailment ahead of us, in the middle of nowhere. Aai had packed her signature parathas, achar, and some snacks. There were technically 3–4 of us travelling, but the food she packed was enough for even the co-passengers in our section! We had a great time eating and talking to fellow passengers.”
