Around 327 Flights Delayed Amid Mumbai Airport Network Glitch
Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), the airport operator, said that the teams implemented manual handling measures to reduce inconvenience and ensure essential operations continued. However, the delay came amid existing air traffic control clogs, making it difficult to determine how many flight delays were directly linked to the outage.
According to flight-tracking website Flightradar24, 327 flights were held up until around 9.30 pm, with departures recording an average delay of 50 minutes. Around 13% of flights were cancelled, while it was unclear how many of these disruptions were caused by the network failure.

Data analysed by Hindustan Times showed that 18 of the 44 passenger flights scheduled to depart between 7 pm and 9 pm left at least an hour late, while three were cancelled. Two additional flights remained on the ground at 10.37 pm, nearly two hours after their scheduled departure. IndiGo and Air India services were among those affected. The power failure reportedly began around 7 pm on October 27.
It affected automatic e-gates at terminal entrances, check-in systems and DigiYatra facilities, requiring airport and security personnel to process passengers manually. The change slowed passenger verification and contributed to queues during the busy evening departure period.
MIAL Experiences Temporary Disruption
MIAL recognised the temporary network disruption but said procedures were switched to manual mode to maintain the continuity of essential airport services. The operator said in a statement that the airport had “experienced a temporary network disruption on Tuesday evening” and that teams had implemented manual processing measures to minimise inconvenience to passengers.

MIAL also said there had been no impact on airport and flight operations so far. However, the operator did not disclose the precise duration of the outage or provide details on the systems affected.
An airport official said the network was still fluctuating at around 9.36 pm as operations moved towards normal. While manual procedures helped keep passenger processing underway, the incident highlighted how technical failures can slow check-ins and boarding at a busy airport, particularly during peak departure hours.
