Mumbai’s western suburbs are set to get a major connectivity boost as the Maharashtra Cabinet Infrastructure Committee has approved the ₹17,724.99-crore Metro Line 13 project. Mumbai Metro Line 13 To Link Mira-Bhayandar With Vasai-Virar
According to The Financial Express, Mumbai Metro Line 13 will stretch across 25.03 km and feature 16 stations, including 13 elevated and three underground stations. Of the total corridor, around 21.78 km will be elevated, while 3.25 km will run underground.
The route will also offer interchange connectivity with the Mumbai suburban railway network at Naigaon, Nalasopara and Virar, making it easier for commuters to combine Metro and local train journeys. A proposed connection with Metro Line 9 at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium will further expand connectivity across the region.
The biggest highlight of this approved metro line is a proposed 4.92-km integrated Metro-cum-road bridge across Vasai Creek. The six-lane bridge will create a direct link between Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar, potentially eliminating the existing road detour of around 32 km.
The proposed bridge is particularly significant for the region. At present, road users travelling between Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar have to take a longer route, adding considerable distance to their journeys. The 4.92-km Metro-cum-road bridge is expected to provide a much more direct connection across Vasai Creek.

Travel Time Could Come Down By 50%?
For people who regularly travel between Mira Road, Vasai, Naigaon, Nalasopara and Virar, the new Metro line could be a major time-saver. Once operational, Metro Line 13 is expected to reduce travel time by around 50% compared with road journeys.
The project could also make daily travel easier for those commuting to employment and education hubs across Mumbai and the wider Mumbai Metropolitan Region. With bus connectivity planned at all stations, commuters will also have more options for last-mile travel.
Beyond cutting travel time, the corridor is also expected to reduce dependence on private vehicles, ease congestion on major roads and lower transport-related carbon emissions. A Metro depot is planned at Chikhal Dongri as part of the project.
With a ₹17,725-crore investment, 16 stations and a massive bridge connecting two rapidly growing parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Metro Line 13 could significantly change the way people travel between Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar once it becomes operational.
