Nationwide Launch Of Bharat Taxi Today; Over 10,000 Rides Completed So Far

Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah is all set to launch Bharat Taxi in the country. It is India’s first cooperative-led ride-hailing platform. This is big news because these taxis officially mark the formal rollout of a government-backed alternative to private cab companies like Ola, Uber, and Rapido. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Bharat Taxi Set For Its Official Launch

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the launch follows a two-month pilot programme that officials have called successful. Trial operations took place in Delhi-NCR and Gujarat before the nationwide rollout. Bharat Taxi was established on June 6,  2025 and is registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, 2002. BJP Delhi took to their official X page and wrote, “Within 3 years, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Dwarka to Kamakhya, across the entire country, #BharatTaxi is all set to become a major means of welfare for our taxi charioteers.”

The platform is backed by eight leading cooperative organisations. This makes it an indigenous, driver-owned mobility service. The Ministry of Cooperation has also claimed that Bharat Taxi is the world’s first and largest cooperative-based ride-hailing service. Over 3 lakh drivers,  called Sarathis, have registered on the platform since pilot operations began in December 2025. More than 1 lakh users have also signed up on the app.

Service Has Completed Over 10000 Rides So Far

According to Hindustan Times, Bharat Taxi has completed over 10,000 rides across Delhi-NCR and Gujarat so far. Around ₹10 crore has been distributed directly to drivers. Unlike other cab services, Bharat Taxi operates on a zero-commission and surge-free pricing model. It allows drivers to keep earning without exclusivity clauses that force them to work with only one app.

The Bharat Taxi app also focuses on social security. It offers health insurance, accident cover, retirement savings, and dedicated driver support. During the launch event today, the top six Sarathis will be honoured with certificates. Each of them will receive personal accident insurance worth ₹5 lakh and family health insurance worth ₹5 lakh. Nine MoUs will also be signed with public and private stakeholders.
