Good news for commuters travelling between Thane, Mumbra, Diva and Dombivli. Authorities are planning a new way to travel with a 9.6 km metro corridor which will connect these four growing suburbs while easing pressure on one of the region’s busiest transport stretches. Here’s what we know so far.

Metro Line To Connect Four Key Hubs: Thane, Mumbra, Diva & Dombivli

The Maharashtra government has proposed this new metro line that will connect four key hubs: Thane, Mumbra, Diva and Dombivli. Not just that, but this 9.6 km corridor is also expected to link suburban rail, the upcoming Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train and Metro Line 12, creating a new transport link across the region. According to The Indian Express, this metro line is really needed as the Thane-Diva-Dombivli stretch is one of the most congested sections of the suburban network and this new corridor may help ease the pressure.

The metro will run underground from Thane to Mumbra and above ground from Mumbra through Diva to Kopar. The extension to Kopar is still under consideration as the initial proposal was to terminate this new line at Diva. Keep in mind that the metro line is still in its initial stages and the authorities are studying the proposal.

New Corridor To Have 7-8 Stations

According to The Indian Express, this 9.6 km corridor will have seven to eight stations (tentative) and it is being planned at an estimated project cost of ₹4,500 crore. A Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected by the end of 2026 or early 2027.

Currently, the authorities are conducting surveys of the proposed corridor, which will continue over the next few months. The project, which will be executed by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MAHA-Metro), could give commuters on the Thane-Mumbra-Diva-Dombivli corridor an alternative way to the overcrowded suburban railway network. We are now awaiting further details on this project.
