Over the years, air travel has changed a lot. Airlines now offer different fare options customised to passengers’ needs. Now, here’s some good news for domestic travellers. Air India is planning to give passengers the option to skip onboard meals and save money on their tickets. Read on to know more!
Air India May Introduce ‘No Meals’ Tickets For Domestic Flyers
Air India is planning to add a new category. Under this category, domestic travellers will be able to travel without paying for onboard meals. But wait, this is not yet confirmed. The proposal is currently under review and has not been approved yet. As per India Today, if it gets the green signal, the option will be available only on domestic flights.
The airline is introducing this category with an aim to give travellers more control over what they pay for during their journey. Isn’t it amazing? Many passengers, especially those taking short flights like Ahmedabad to Mumbai, may not want a meal in flight. Under the proposed plan, such travellers could select a “No Meals” ticket while booking their flight.

May First Roll Out New Category On Selected Routes
As per India Today, the airline is currently assessing the proposed plan from the passengers’ point of view. It is also reported that, if approved, Air India is likely to test the new fare category on select short domestic routes first. Think of it as a trial run. The airline will closely monitor how passengers respond to the option and whether travellers are willing to trade meals for lower fares before deciding on a wider rollout.
For now, Air India serves food and meals to all passengers travelling on both domestic and international routes. We are excited to see passengers’ response to this new fare category.
